Questions, bugs, ideas or a report about squad content.
Which devices does Gyotaku run on?
iPhone with iOS 18 or later.
Do I need an account?
No. There’s nothing to sign up for. Gyotaku uses your iPhone’s iCloud to sync your catch log and for squads, so being signed in to iCloud is all it needs.
The species is wrong. How do I change it?
Open the catch and tap the species name on the card. Pick from the common catches, or search the full catalog of about 38,000 species.
How do I add photos I took before?
Press and hold the orange shutter button to import from Photos, up to 20 at a time. Each one is cut out into a sticker and filed by the date the photo was taken.
How do I start or join a squad?
Open the Squad tab and tap New Squad. To invite someone, create a code and send it to them; they tap Squad › Join with Code and paste it. A code works for one person and lasts 24 hours.
Squads need iCloud, and a squad holds up to 100 anglers.
Who can see my fishing spots?
Your own log lives on your iPhone and in your own iCloud; we can’t see it. When you share a catch to a squad, its exact spot is visible to that squad’s members only.
To stop saving exact spots, go to My Profile › Settings & Privacy and turn off Record Precise Location. New catches then keep only an approximate location, within about 2 km. You can also choose whether shared images show the spot.
I got a new iPhone. Where are my catches?
Sign in with the same Apple Account and make sure iCloud is on. Your catch log syncs back from your iCloud; the status is shown under My Profile › Settings & Privacy.
How do I restore or cancel Gyotaku Membership?
To restore, tap your avatar at the top right, open Gyotaku Membership and tap Restore Purchases. Membership belongs to your iCloud identity, so sign in to the same iCloud account.
To cancel a subscription, go to iPhone Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Membership stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. More in the Terms of Use.
Someone in my squad posted something inappropriate.
Report the catch, comment or member in the app; it’s hidden from you right away. You can also leave the squad or ask the captain to remove the person. If you need our help, email [email protected].
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes the data on your iPhone. To delete your catch log from iCloud, go to iPhone Settings › Apple Account › iCloud › Manage Storage › Gyotaku. For squads, withdraw your shares, delete your comments, or leave the squad.
Details are in the Privacy Policy.
