Gyotaku

Terms of Use

Effective November 7, 2026

Gyotaku is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). This page adds what is specific to Gyotaku: how Gyotaku Membership works and the rules for squads. If anything here conflicts with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA applies.

1. Gyotaku Membership

Gyotaku is free to download. Gyotaku Membership is optional and is offered as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and can differ by country or region.

What membership currently includes:

  • For you: a set of 36 reactions you can use in any squad.
  • For squads you lead as captain: everyone in the squad can see catches shared more than 90 days ago (without membership a squad shows the last 90 days; older shares are hidden, not deleted), everyone can use the 36 reactions, and you can delete a single catch or comment a member shared.
  • Removing members and disbanding a squad are always free.

Membership belongs to your iCloud identity, so you need to be signed in to iCloud on your iPhone to buy it, and it stays with you when you change iPhones. If it doesn’t show up, tap Restore Purchases on the membership page.

2. Billing, renewal and cancellation

  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Manage or cancel a subscription in iPhone Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. After you cancel, membership stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
  • Lifetime is a one-time payment and never renews.
  • Purchases are processed by Apple. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.

3. Squad rules

Before you create or join a squad, you confirm that you are 14 or older and that catches you share include their exact spots. These rules also appear in the app under Squad Rules.

Share only your own catches

Photos must be of fish you caught. In photos and comments alike: no sexual, violent, harassing or abusive content, no advertising, and nothing illegal. We have zero tolerance for this content.

Report problems

You can report any catch, comment or member. The content (or everything that person posted) is hidden from you right away. You can also leave the squad or ask the captain to remove someone. If you need our help, email [email protected].

Where content is stored

Squad content is stored in the captain’s iCloud, which we can’t see. In mainland China, iCloud is operated by AIPO Cloud (Guizhou) Technology. iCloud’s operator may access stored data under its terms and the law.

Spots and screenshots

Shared catches include exact spots, and screenshots can’t be blocked. Only join squads with people you trust.

Leaving and removal

When you leave or are removed, your shared catches and comments are deleted from the squad. (If you’re view-only when you leave, the captain removes them.)

4. Your content

Your photos and catches are yours. We don’t receive a copy: they stay on your iPhone, in your own iCloud, or, for catches you share to a squad, in the captain’s iCloud, where the squad’s members can see them in the app.

5. Fish responsibly

Species suggestions, place names and maps are made automatically and can be wrong. Check local fishing rules yourself, including licenses, seasons, size and bag limits, protected species and access to private water. Gyotaku is not a source of legal or regulatory information.

6. Changes and contact

If these terms change, we will update this page and its effective date. Questions: [email protected]. See also our Privacy Policy.
